Protection Guide

The difference between life cover, critical illness, income protection and MPPI.

Four different jobs

Mortgage life insurance pays out on death during the term. Critical illness cover pays a lump sum on diagnosis of a defined condition. Income protection pays a regular benefit while illness or injury stops you working. Mortgage payment protection covers the mortgage payment for a limited period.

They solve different problems, and the right combination depends on your commitments and any existing cover.

Start with what you already have

Employer death in service, sick pay arrangements and existing policies all reduce the gap. Reviewing them first avoids paying twice for the same protection.

Reading the detail

Definitions, exclusions and deferred periods matter more than headline premium. Two policies at a similar price can behave very differently at claim.
