Remortgage Guide

When to review, what to compare, and the questions worth asking before you switch.

Why review your mortgage

Most mortgages have an initial period after which the rate reverts to the lender's standard variable rate. A review before that happens gives you time to consider the options rather than defaulting into one.

A remortgage is also an opportunity to reconsider the term, the repayment structure and whether any capital raising is appropriate.

Comparing properly

Headline rates rarely tell the whole story. Product fees, valuation and legal costs, and any early repayment charge on your existing deal all belong in the comparison.

We look at total cost over the initial period rather than the rate in isolation.

Product transfer or full remortgage

Staying with your existing lender can be administratively simpler. Moving lender opens up a wider range of products but involves a full application.

Neither is automatically better. The right answer depends on your circumstances at the time.

Let's make your next move a little easier.
